Concrete Work on Higher Ground Northwest of Town

Hadley is an unincorporated community in northwestern Warren County, about 10 miles northwest of Bowling Green, and the concrete contractors who work here mostly pour for rural homes on larger lots. Hadley sits at the junction of U.S. Route 231 and Kentucky Route 626, with access from Exit 7 of Interstate 165 on Bowling Green's northwestern outskirts. At about 669 feet, it is more than 100 feet above the city. Its post office ran from 1860 to 1994.

Towers on the high ground

Hadley has long been a tower site. From 1962 to 1971 it held the transmitter for WLTV, the station now known as WBKO. Today it hosts the towers for WKGB-TV, NPR station WKYU-FM and NOAA Weather Radio station KIH45. Open, elevated ground also means wind and full sun on a fresh slab. On hot, breezy days a concrete surface can dry before it has cured, which leads to surface cracking, so we pour early in the day and keep the surface damp or under curing compound.

Slope and drainage on rural lots

With more elevation change, many Hadley lots slope. A slope helps drainage but complicates a slab:

  • Driveways that run downhill toward a garage can send water straight to the door. We add a slight crown or a channel drain at the bottom.
  • Patios on a slope may need a stepped design or a short retaining edge to stay level.
  • Walkways on a grade may need steps or a broom finish with deeper texture for grip.

We shoot grades on site so the finished slab sheds water where you want it.

What rural Hadley homes need

The most common projects on larger lots:

  • Concrete Driveways or concrete sections where a long gravel lane reaches the house
  • Concrete Slabs for detached garages, carports, pole barns and workshops
  • Pads for propane tanks, generators and HVAC units
  • Concrete Patios and Stamped Concrete for the back of the house
  • Sidewalks & Walkways connecting the house to outbuildings

For outbuilding slabs, we set thickness by the load: a riding mower needs less than a tractor or a truck on a lift.

Freeze, thaw and rural roads

Warren County winters bring short freezes, and rural driveways get a mix of mud, gravel and sometimes salt carried in on tires. Air-entrained concrete resists freeze-thaw damage. A penetrating sealer applied after the slab cures helps keep water and salt out of the surface. If you already see flaking or scaling on an older slab, Concrete Repair can address the surface if the slab underneath is still sound.

Sealing and care on exposed sites

Slabs on open, high ground get full sun, wind and rain. A penetrating silane or siloxane sealer, applied after the concrete has cured, helps the surface shed water without making it slick. Resealing every few years keeps that protection working. Keep fertilizer and deicing salt off new concrete in its first season, since both can attack a young surface. Clean oil drips on driveways promptly so they do not soak in.

Schools and families

Hadley students attend Warren County Public Schools, and Warren Central is the nearest high school. Families with kids often ask for a wider apron for basketball or a slab for a playset.

Hadley Questions

My driveway slopes toward the garage. How do you keep water out?

We can add a crown, a slight side slope or a channel drain across the bottom. We set grades on site so water moves away from the door.

Can a concrete truck reach a house at the end of a long lane?

Usually yes. We check access during the estimate. If the lane is too soft or narrow, we can plan for a pump or a different delivery approach.

What size pad do I need for a generator?

It depends on the unit. We size the pad a little larger than the generator's footprint and keep it level and well drained.
