Safe, Simple Concrete for a Small Depot Town
Woodburn is a small home rule city in southwestern Warren County, and concrete contractors working here mostly fix and replace concrete on older lots. The whole city covers less than half a square mile around the junction of KY 240, US 31W and KY 884, with Bowling Green to the northeast and Franklin to the south. The name is thought to come from a nearby forest that burned. Before that, the spot was a stagecoach stop called Mason's Inn; the railroad depot came in 1859, the town was laid out in 1865, and it incorporated a year later.
Steps, walks and ramps
Woodburn's median age was 44 at the 2000 census, and about a quarter of residents were 65 or older. The population was 355 in 2010 and 303 in 2020. For a lot of households, the most useful concrete work is the path into the house:
Even steps. Crumbling or uneven porch steps are a real fall risk. When we rebuild steps, every riser gets the same height, treads are deep enough for a whole foot, and the surface gets a broom finish for grip.
Flat walks. A walk panel that has dropped or lifted an inch can catch a toe. Concrete Repair that levels or replaces those panels makes the trip to the door safer.
A ramp instead. A gentle concrete ramp from the driveway to a porch or side door can outlast the need for steps. We plan the slope and length so it is easy to use and add a level landing at the door.
Fixing an old driveway
Many Woodburn driveways are decades old. Common problems include cracked aprons, crumbling edges and settled spots near the garage. Depending on the condition:
- Seal cracks and patch small damaged areas if the slab is still level
- Replace the worst panels and tie them into the rest
- Replace the whole Concrete Driveway when most of it has settled or broken
We give you each option with its trade-offs in writing.
Ground and drainage
Woodburn sits at about 636 feet, a bit higher than Bowling Green, in the same karst limestone country that covers much of Warren County. On older lots, the biggest concrete killer is usually water, not rock. Downspouts that empty against a walk or onto a driveway soften the soil under it. When we replace concrete, we look at where roof water goes and suggest extensions or a new slope so the new work does not fail the same way.
Small additions that help
Not every project is large. Some of the most useful jobs in a small town are small:
- A Concrete Slab pad for a generator, air conditioner or trash cans
- A short Sidewalks & Walkways path from the driveway to a side door
- A small Concrete Patio outside the back door, level with the threshold where possible
- Replacing one broken step at the street
We are glad to quote small jobs. Sometimes several small items can be done in one visit with one concrete delivery.
Historic homes
Three Woodburn houses are on the National Register: the Polk House and the Dr. William Robb House, both listed in December 1979, and the William P. Neale House, added in November 1980. On houses like these we keep new walks and steps plain and in proportion.

Woodburn Questions
Can you build a concrete ramp instead of steps?
Yes. We plan a gentle slope with a level landing at the door and a broom finish for grip. Ramps take more length than steps, so we look at the space during the estimate.
Do you take small jobs in Woodburn, like one step or a pad?
Yes. Small jobs are welcome. If you have a few small items, we can often do them together in one visit.
Why does my walk keep sinking near the downspout?
Roof water is softening the soil under the slab. We fix the base, replace the panel and recommend a downspout extension so it does not happen again.
